The chilly, chilly South!!!

Covering Friday-Monday. More journalish at this point. I hope to write more interesting tales soon :) The trip is going great so far and we are having fun and have yet to kill each other!

1/3/14
We left at 6:30am from my apartment in Bernardston, MA. It was bitter cold and snowing. Sam and I had to attach the bike to the car layered in our summery clothes! We were celebrating the fact that it was the last day we would be that cold (bahaha yeah that did not go as planned). Our van was a complete beast and attacked the snow with the mighty heart of a warrior.
The most exciting part of our first day of traveling was that at one point our windshield wipers stopped working..... Sam ended up hanging out of the window on the highway and had to hand wiggle the wipers (as we could not see out the window). Poor girl out there in the cold air and covered in salty mess! We stopped for gas and the gas men fussed over us like we were orphaned girls. I even got a free cup of hot chocolate :) We picked up Brian in PA and arrived in Evington, VA around 8:30pm. I had a wonderful visit with my grandfather and family. I am so lucky to have them in my life!
1/4/14
In the morning we drove to Moorsville, NC to see Sam’s grandmother. Brian and I took the bikes off the back and attached them to the roof of the van (so we could actually get into the back of the van which is very useful!). It is insane how much salt was on the car and bikes! People thought it was covered in snow! I was covered in more salt than I have eaten in my lifetime!
The next leg of our journey was to Ashville, NC. We thought made it just in time for our techno contra dance (which we ended being an hour early for.... haha, better early than late). We had a good time at the dance. I was able to see a couple of people I actually knew which was awesome! The person running the dance was so kind as to host us for the night. We got back around 2:30am and Sam and Brian crashed. Haha, I went out to the after dance party and danced till 5:30am Jordy (our host) and I were the last to leave! I am in love with dancing!
1/5/14
We slept in and explored downtown Ashville in sweatshirts! We were so excited. We did all the touristy things (like ride the metal pigs and turkeys and get stuck to the giant metal iron (pictures will follow soon :) Brian’s friend Keely hosted us for that night. Did I mention yet that Sam is a wonderful cook? Well she is (plus a wonderful person in gengeral!). We stayed up late chatting and people taking turns playing guitar and singing. It was a lovely evening. It was extremely cold though..... Our dreams of the warm south were shattered like the icicles falling off the car...... The heat was not working in the house we stayed in so we ended up all sharing a bed to keep warm.
1/6/14

We could see our breath when we woke up and it was as cold there as back in VT!! Gah silly nature! Brian and I spent the morning/afternoon learning new dance moves from youtube (best place on earth ;) I had a blast being twirled and picked up and dipped. We went to an awesome hardware store and I wanted to take the whole store with me! I settled for a machete, pepper spray, liquid wrench (hahah, Roberta!!!), solar rope lights, and a tarp. The random combination amused me. In the evening we went to another contra dance. I will just say that contra dancing is better in NE! Miss you all! However, I did have fun once I got the right mindset :) It was so cold that we all went right to bed! Haha, so wrong for the south :)

One chapter of my life closes and another begins!

Hello everyone!! For those of you who may not know I quit my job and am moving to Costa Rica! I am looking at staying 3-12 months but probably 6months. Our visa run out every three months so I intend to decided whether to stay or go every time it runs out. I am driving 5,000 miles from Bernardston, MA to Puerto Viejo Limon Costa Rica. We will cross boarders in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and then into Costa Rica. I am traveling with two amazing friends that I met while dancing.
How this all came about was that my friend Sam was moving there to live and she needed people to ride with her. My friend Brian decided to drive down with her. I told them I did not have enough notice to take the time off from work and that I could not go..... Their response was well why don’t you quit? I thought about it for a few minutes and realized why not? I had been looking for a new job (working nights and stress was getting to me), renting month to month, had no debt, and no commitments. This could be the only time in my life I was so free to be able to just pack up and go. So two days later I quit my job and started packing my shorts for Costa Rica!
We have no set schedule and are just taking our time. We are trying to get to as many dances as we can before we leave! Our route so far is stopping in Evington, VA to see my family 1/3/14. Driving to see Sam’s grandmother then on to Ashville for a dance on 1/4/14. We will stay in Ashville for a dance on 1/6/14. Driving to Atlanta GA on 1/7/14 to a friend of Sam’s and again going dancing. We plan to stop one more night (maybe in New Orleans) before headed to TX. At that time we will wave our USA roadtrip goodbye and our Central American Roadtrip will ensue!!
We will be living in a village that is located in the rainforest less than a mile from the beach. The place is nicknamed Paradise by those who live and visit this beautiful location. We will be renting rooms in a home together. I will be working but not to actually save money. I will hopefully earn enough to almost break even. The going rate for pay is about $2 an hour :) haha, I am so excited for new experiences! Our main forms of transportation will be our feet and our bicycles.
I want to thank everyone who really supported me and helped encourage me to follow my heart. I am happier than I have been in a long time. I was getting in a life rut and allowing life to live me instead of living my life. Heck life is way too short for that nonsense! I always encourage others to live life to fullest. Now I am finally freeing myself of everything to allow myself to live my life to its fullest!

Please keep in contact with me! I will have limited internet access
